Join us for a dazzling day of color exploration and imagery. This workshop with Kenya Miles of Traveling Miles Studio will focus on the majestic array of shades that can be achieved from one of the oldest known dyes, cochineal. Students will get hands-on experience creating printed designs using thickened mordants and dyes using a variety of techniques including stamping, hand painting and vat dyeing. Marvel in shades of deep pink, orange, and violet as well as the beauty of navigating your designs to achieve geometric or abstract designs. Students will leave with silk and linen swatches as well as a hemmed cotton tea towel.
In addition you will be fed a delicious vegetarian lunch, all while overlooking the Pacific Ocean from a secret residence in Bolinas located on the Little Mesa. Please bring sun protection and a hat, as it may be warm and sunny. Please also bring a coat or sweater just in case it’s on the cooler side. It’s the Bay Area! However you slice it we will be eating and weaving in a gorgeous yard overlooking the ocean!
